.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 320 PM CDT Sun Jul 27 2025

This afternoon we have a broad upper level ridge sitting across the
Southeastern US that is dominating the weather pattern for much of
the country. This feature is leading to southerly winds, mostly
clear skies, and above normal temperatures across our area today. A
Heat Advisory remains in effect this afternoon as temperatures
across the area warm into the middle to upper 90s. Dewpoints will
remain in the lower to middle 70s leading to heat index values
between 105 to 110 degrees.

For Monday and Tuesday, the ridge will continue to shift westward
and will be centered over the south-central portions of the U.S.
Above normal temperatures are expected to continue the next couple
of days and will reach into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees
areawide. As we move into Monday and Tuesday, a slightly drier
airmass will start to move into western portions of the forecast
area. Dewpoints on Monday will range from the middle to upper 60s
west of I-135 to the lower to middle 70s east of I-135. Because of
the higher humidity for eastern portions of the state heat index
values will reach over 105 degrees and a Heat Advisory is in effect
for Monday afternoon. Uncertainty remains on how much we will mix
out on Tuesday and therefore how high our heat indices will reach.
Another Heat Advisory for Tuesday afternoon may be needed for
southeastern Kansas, but we will hold off at this time.

Beginning on Tuesday, another trough will sweep across the northern
portions of the CONUS through the second half of the week. This will
send another weak boundary towards Kansas on Wednesday that will
interact with moisture surging up from Mexico and the Desert SW.
Enhanced rain and storm chances are expected beginning on Wednesday
afternoon and continuing through the end of the week. This feature
will also send a cold front across the state on Wednesday night
bringing below normal temperatures for Thursday and into the
weekend. Temperatures during this time look to only top out in the
lower to middle 80s, with a few 70s possible across central
Kansas.
